3 Ways to Prevent Diseases

  • by

For some reason, we have higher chances of getting sick during cold weather. So now that winter is coming, get equipped with the following information to stay healthy all throughout the season.

Get enough sleep
Sleep restores us and has a huge effect on how we feel. Have trouble sleeping? Your diet may be a culprit. Food relates directly to serotonin, a key hormone that — along with Vitamin B6, B12, and folic acid — promotes healthy sleep. For more restful sleep, focus your diet on the “big three”: complex carbohydrates, lean proteins and unsaturated fats. Exercise like yoga, can also help. Source: Health.ClevelandClinic

Practice good hygiene
The first line of defense is to keep germs at bay by following good personal hygiene habits. Stop infection before it begins and avoid spreading it to others with these easy measures:

  • Wash your hands with soap and water before preparing food and after using the bathroom.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you sneeze or cough, or cough into your elbow rather than your hand.
  • Wash and bandage all cuts. Any serious cut, or animal or human bite, should be examined by a doctor.
  • Do not pick at healing wounds or blemishes or squeeze pimples. Doing so allows germs to enter. Source: Harvard

Resist the sweets
If you really love chocolate, enjoy it in small amounts, keeping the calories in mind. “Chocolate has some nutritional value but is also high in sugar and fat,” says Jen Sacheck, PhD, a nutrition professor at Tufts University’s Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy.

Pass up drinks and food products with added sugar. The food label may not specifically say “added sugar,” so be on the lookout for ingredients such as corn syrup, fructose, high-fructose corn syrup, and molasses. Source: WebMD
