4 Tips on Hosting an Outdoor Winter Party

  • by

Take advantage of the scenic views you can only see during the winter by holding your Christmas party in your backyard! Aside from gathering around the fire pit, here are some other ways to keep your guests happy as you chill in the cold weather:

Offer to soak in a hot tub
That bubbling tub heated up to 104 degrees Fahrenheit is waiting for you, just outside on the patio or deck. Even if it’s snowing, a spa or hot tub will quickly warm you up and can relax sore muscles. Just make sure you have a warm robe, slippers, and a towel nearby for when you decide to exit. Adorn the place with cushy items
Bring some indoor accessories outside. Drape your outdoor furniture with faux fur or flokati. Layer a few plush rugs to warm up the atmosphere (just keep them away from the fire!). Source: ApartmentTherapy

Serve good food
For winter cooking outdoors, Rose suggests meals that lend themselves to slow cooking, like barbecue. “The longer, the slower, the better,” he says. Whether you’re using your grill, an outdoor oven or an open fire, he suggests dishes like roasted pork butt or brisket and adding wood chips to enhance flavour. “If you start early in the morning, then there’s little work to do when guests arrive,” Rose says. Add simple vegetable sides like roasted potatoes, mushrooms and cauliflower – ideally also cooked over the fire – and you’ve got an impressive and satisfying meal.

Have a drink bar
Dark spirits are made for winter drinking by the fire, both inside and out. Just one bottle of highquality whisky and a few glasses are all you need. It’s warmth in a bottle – and it’s also one of the easiest ways to serve drinks. Ron Swanson would approve. Source: TheGlobeAndMail
